The functional medicine faucet analogy is a simple way to explain how Functional Medicine differs from conventional medicine in addressing health issues.

Imagine that your symptoms (such as fatigue, digestive issues, or brain fog) are like water overflowing from a sink. In conventional medicine, the focus is often on mopping up the water—treating the symptoms with medications to alleviate discomfort. While this can provide temporary relief, the underlying cause of the problem may still persist, and the “water” continues to overflow.

Functional Medicine, on the other hand, focuses on turning off the faucet—the root cause of the overflowing water (or symptoms). Instead of just treating the symptoms, Functional Medicine practitioners look for the underlying imbalances in the body, such as inflammation, nutritional deficiencies, or hormonal imbalances, and work to correct those, effectively turning off the faucet and stopping the overflow at the source.

This analogy helps explain how Functional Medicine addresses the root causes of health problems for long-term wellness, rather than just managing symptoms
