About
Dr Shah was born and raised as a first-generation Indian in the United States. Growing up, she was surrounded by a blend of traditional home remedies and Ayurvedic solutions, which sparked an early interest in healing and wellness. This foundation, combined with curiosity about the process of disease development, and desire to help people feel well, led her to pursue a career in medicine.
Dr Shah's medical training took place in downtown Detroit, starting at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine. Throughout her training at a leading osteopathic medical school she received training in allopathic methods as well as OMM (osteopathic manipulative medicine) and many facets of holistic medicine. She was on the board of the holistic medicine club and helped educate other medical students on modalities available to them/their future patients. Her medical school training was followed by residency training at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. Every day, she encountered a wide range of medical conditions, from rare to common, and saw firsthand the healthcare disparities that exist. These experiences shaped her understanding of the importance of addressing both the symptoms and the root causes of illness.
After completing residency, she began work as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist, where the consequences of untreated disease processes are evident with nearly every patient. After seeing patient after patient with lengthy medication lists, many were still not feeling their best and often faced repeated hospitalizations for the same issues. This reinforced her belief that there had to be a better way to help people truly heal and thrive.
Driven by this belief, she pursued further training and became fellowship-trained by the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, board certified by the American Board of Physician Specialties in Integrative Medicine and certified (IFMCP) in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine. She is also board certified by ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine) and the AOBIM (American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine). Dr Shah's approach to patient care is holistic and patient-centered, combining the best of conventional medicine with complementary and alternative therapies. She believes in treating the whole person, not just the disease, and is passionate about helping patients take proactive steps to optimize their health and well-being.
